This image is from an illuminated manuscript that dates to around the year 1310, about 700 years ago.  With a bit of a wardrobe change it could be any spindler and her cat today. 

That cat looks just like my Gracie, who is a spindler, too--just like her ancestress.

Multitasking

Why do only one thing when you could be doing three?  Women have been doing it for a long, long time.  This talented lady was from Bückeburg, a small town in the German state of Lower Saxony.


I love the embroidery on her apron, and I would be interested in seeing what her hat looks like without the firkin upon it. 
 

The coat of arms of the town is interesting.  I do believe that is a ball of yarn in the shield motif above the city gate.
