I Think She Needs a Margarita

Daguerr_knitter_1

Or perhaps a good tickle.

Do you see how her hands are just a bit blurry?  She just  couldn't keep her hands from trying to work on that sock for the few minutes the exposure took.  See sock knitters?  This sock-knitting mania of yours has been going on for a long, long time!

This image is a daguerreotype, which dates the photo to about the late 1840's.

Greek Spindler

Greek_spindler_6

This lovely image shows a Greek woman in native costume spinning with a distaff and spindle.  We can see quite a lot of detail about her costume as well as about her spindle and distaff and how she used them.

Texel Sheep

Texel_ram_2Still continuing along in the Netherlands theme, I give you a Texel ram from the Isle of Texel in the north Netherlands:

I think some porcine blood must have crept in there somehow.  Yikes.  And some of you thought the Zwartbles were interesting looking.

But he must have at least been a cute lamb, though, right?  Aren't all lambs cute?

Texel_ram_lamb

Oh, well, they're supposed to have nice dispositions.

This Delft tile is from the 18th century in the Netherlands.

This is what the shepherdess' farmhouse might have looked like.  The tile dates to approximately 1775.
