This is "Shepherdess With Goat, Sheep, and Cow" by Julien Dupré (1851 - 1910), a French realist painter.(click for big)
Dupré is a favorite of mine. You will be seeing his works in these pages again.

Our sky looks exactly like that this morning. Please, yes, more Dupre!

I wonder how she prepares the yarn. Spun? Spindle? In the grease?

I love it that she's knitting. A friend send me a picture of her knitting while hiking!

When I saw the description in Bloglines, I thought "What's a goat sheep?"

Ah, to sit contentedly on a log all day and knit. :-)
Okay, I know she has a boatload of chores to do when she gets home, but that's not in the painting.

That's wonderful. I love the colors of the grass and sky.
