Sheep, Eh?

I pulled this image out of my archives recently for my friend Dianna who lives in Saskatchewan, Canada, and I thought y'all would enjoy it, too.

"Ranching in the Canadian West. Flock of Sheep."

This postcard is from the early 20th century, probably around 1910.  Nice flock, eh?

I look at that serene photo and immediately my brain jumps to mid-winter images of making my way on horseback through huge windblown drifts trying to find the missing stray 200 or so...

Where are the LGDs?

I'm trying to imagine how long it would take to shear all those sheep, and how much wool you'd have when done.

This postcard should be in a contest like "Guess the number of sheep in this picture"...better than counting beans in a jar!

Wonder why it's a flock of sheep and it would be a herd of cattle or bison? Anyhow, that's a large flock!

(ruth tries to look innocent here, after Marcy fusses about a mis-spelled email address...)

Okay, now fast forward to shearing time and that's where my imagination fails me.

Scissors. Where'd I put my scissors. Need scissors. NOW.

Thank you. Lovely sheep!

But can you identify the breed? :-)

Here, sheepy, sheepy, sheepy.
